Artist Books & Limited Editions
A design studio and publishing house centering the book as a work of art. Hand-bound limited editions, experimental print production, and curatorial collaborations for artists and cultural institutions.
We center the book as a form of art, rather than a vehicle for art.
Founded in 2012 in East Williamsburg, Brooklyn, Prospect Bookbinding began with a simple yet radical proposition: to expand access and knowledge of artist books. We believe that the physical form of a book—its weight, texture, binding, and materiality—is as essential to the work as its content.
Every project begins from thoughtful engagement with source content, informed by ongoing research and experimentation in print, materiality, and fabrication. We collaborate closely with artists, editors, curators, printers, and book binders to create publications that challenge traditional concepts of the book.
Our work has been recognized by AIGA and featured in collections worldwide. Through our independent publishing imprint, we produce a compact collection of artist books annually, each crafted completely by hand in our Brooklyn bindery.
Paper, typography, binding structure, and cover materials are not afterthoughts—they are the foundation of every concept-driven project.
We embrace unconventional materials and construction methods—from necklace clasps to custom enclosures—to create tactile stories.
Long-term collaborations with cultural institutions, museums, galleries, and individual artists define our practice.
From editorial ideation to final print, we offer comprehensive design and production services for artists and cultural institutions.
We design books, boxes, enclosures, and printed materials. Our work considers paper, typography, binding structure, cover materials, and reader interactions.
We consult on production of artist books, working with a network of commercial printers, book binders, and specialty fabricators.
